| This is going to be general. There are lots of type of
needlecraft, cross stitch, crewel, embroidery, etc and the rules are the
same with some variation.
I am going to assume that you know how to back and stretch a fabric item
and if you don't you need to learn how. And PLEASE DO NOT USE THE
STICKY BOARD. If you are going to spend you money and time.....do it
properly.
Needlework looks great with or without a mat. It depends on your own
choice. I personally like most needlework with a mat, and I prefer the fabric mats
not the paper ones. I like the tapestries with no mats. Just my
personal choice.
The OLD RULE with needlework was NO GLASS...but that was when no mats
were used and the needlework materials were made from wool. If you put
glass on the wool it captured moisture and caused the needle piece to rot.
But I like glass on my work to protect it from normal pollution. And I
would not do all that work... just to let it get dirty. You know how dirty
your end tables get in one day?.....imagine that on your needlework over the
course of 5 or 10 years. "nasty" |
